Shirva 28 June 2022:SWAK has been helping the less fortunate poeple in shirva in its continious approach to assistst them to get education and other basic fascilities.This years school uniform distribution event has been organised on 28 June 2022 at Shirva St. Marys high school premises.
SWAK representative Mr. Melwyn Aranha and our parish has coordinated the aid distribution to 80 needy children having difficultiles for thier educational needs. Along with Swak president Gilbert mendonca, committee members, Shirva Parish Priest Rev Fr. Lesly D'souza , Principal, Teachrs and students were present during the Aid distribution.
Shirva Parish Priest in his thanks giving note informed the students, about SWAK members contribution for sponsoring needy children and asked them to study well and thanked all swak members and their families.

Kuwait, May 26: Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) unveiled the teaser for the upcoming ‘SWAK Rupyalo Sambram’, a Konkani musical extravaganza slated to be held in Kuwait on January 17, 2020 at American International School, Salmiya (Maidan Hawally) Kuwait.
Poster of the event was symbolically released to media by SWAK president Alban Dsouza during the committee meeting on May 24 in Salmiya, Kuwait.
The event will mark the completion of SWAK’s 25 years of meritorious service towards the social cause and upliftment of the deprived families.
SWAK is engaging the Konkani singers of the different generations in one stage for the first time in Kuwait to bring more excitement among the Konkani music lovers. The performing superstars of this gala event are Sangeeth Samrat - Henry D’Souza, Yodling King - Melwyn Peris, Konkan Kalashree – Claud Dsouza, Heartthrob of Konkani – Prajoth D’Sa, Babita Pinto, Anitha D’Souza and Joseph Mathias.

The proceeds of this event shall go towards the welfare funding of SWAK’s charitable activities in particular upbringing of poor children, in the field of education by funding school fees and uniform, providing financial help to improve the living conditions by repairing dilapidated homes and giving medical assistance by sharing their monetary burden to combat their illnesses.
President Alban Dsouza anticipated the whole heated support of everybody associated with SWAK for this noble cause and to make the event an outstanding and memorable.

SWAK TROPHY Season 1
KUWAIT 26 April 2019: The newly formed Sports committee of Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK), hosted the first cricket tournament titled SWAK TROPHY Season 1.
Twenty Four teams were participated in the scheduled League matches in 5 groups of the cricket tournament which started from March 24 till 13th April 2019. A total of 8 teams were qualified from the league matches and entered the knockout round (quarterfinal & semifinal)to secure their place in Grand Finale which was played On 26 April 2019.
Teams RED N BLACK vs MFC played the first quarter finale, while team BOOM BOOM vs SCORPIONS ; BROTHERS11 vs ALFA11 and CHALLENGERS vs INDIAN11 played the rest of the quarter finals on 26 April 2019 during the morning session.
Semifinal 1 was played in the afternoon between CHALLENGERS Vs MFC and Semifinal2 was played between teams SCORPIONS Vs BROTHERS11. CHALLENGERS won in the First semifinal. Match took an exciting turn when the results of the 2nd semifinal between Scorpions Vs Brothers11 were tied. In the Super over Scorpions defeated Brothers11 and entered the finals.
In the final match Challengers won the toss & chose to field. Team Scorpions batting first scored 51 runs in the stipulated 6 overs.
Challengers chased the the total score of 52 runs in the 5.2 over and won the finals and clinched the SWAK Cricket Trophy2019.
Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) Commitee had organised the entire event. During the presentation ceremony SWAK Cricket Trophy was handed over to winning team Challengers captain by Guests Mario & Joylin cornelio,while Runners up team award was handed over by Mr. Wasim Sheik.
SWAK President Mr. Alban D'Souza handed over the Man of the Series & Man of the final Match award to Mr. Arif from Challengers. SWAK Committee members felicitated the winners of various titles. Best Batsman - Rayees from Scorpions & Best Bowler award was given to Sajid from Scorpions for their respective performances during the series. SWAK sports secretary Mr. Godwin Fernandes along with committee members conducted all the matched in a well-organized manner. The presentation ceremony was conducted by SWAK cultural Secretary Mr. Loinel D'Souza. The program came to an end by thanks giving note to all the sponsors who whole heartedly rendered their support to SWAK for the noble cause to help the needy and less fortunate back home in India.

Kuwait, Feb 13: Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) under the presidentship of Alban D’Souza celebrated its pfeast (Vodlen Fest) at the Indian Community School Auditorium Khaitan on February 8.
The programme commenced with Manohar Prabhu, compere of the day, welcoming the members and the guests, followed by a prayer by Urban D'Souza. Committee members sung welcome song ‘Swagat Swagat’ for which lyrics were written by Lancy Rodrigues and music was provided by music maestro Adrian Gomes. President of SWAK Alban D'Souza officially welcomed the entire guest and thanked all the members for their support. Secretary Lona D’Souza read out the annual report highlighting the achievements of SWAK.
During the felicitation session, Fr Noel D'Almeida and Vallie D'Sa were the chief guests. The entire committee member along with chief guests cut the cake to symbolically start the feast. Fr Noel D'Almeida delivered feast message. Outstanding and merit students of 10th, 12th and higher studies were honored by chief guests. The sponsors, outstanding members and media personnel were also honored during the occasion for their contribution towards SWAK by president Alban D'Souza.
Shelton Pinto was felicitated for his achievement in Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM), the number one Konkani reality show in Gulf. He entertained the audience with Konkani song ‘Havn Nenan’. Kevin D’Souza sung Konkani song ‘Suzanna’. During entertainment session foot tapping dances were performed by Alisha Gomes, Suman Saldanha, Megan Menezes, Seana Coutinho, Melrick, Nash, Alita, Nishita, Shirley coutinho, Thanisha,Thanya, Selwyn, Sharon and SWAK committee members. A comedy skit was presented by Rapheal and group. Deon Prince entertained the audience with beat box presentation.
A lot of spot prizes were given in between and during dance sessions. Lucky dip draw and housie were conducted to keep the excitement alive. Lucky member and highest lucky dip seller were honored with prizes. The vote of thanks was delivered by vice president Alwyn Dsouza. Fr Noel D'Almeida offered grace before meal. The programme was well compered by Dr Manohar Prabhu and stage programme was supported by Roshni Lobo, Doris Lobo, Regina Serrao, Felcita Dsouza, Allwyn D'Souza and Clifford Dsouza. DJ Alister Gomes kept the audience live professionally. Lights and sound were provided by Waves Event Engineering (Anand D'Souza). Wilson Olivera Nite enthralls music enthusiasts in Kuwait:
Kuwait, October 21: Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK), under the presidentship of Alban D'Souza, organized ‘Wilson Olivera Nite’, a Konkani musical extravaganza on Friday, 20 October at the American International School, Kamel Al Rayes Auditorium, Maidan Hawally, here.
The melodious event featured variety of lively enthralling melodious songs contributed by visiting singers Wilson Olivera, Babitha Pinto, Joseph Mathias. Music was rendered by Kiran Gonsalves, Raj Gopal and group Kuwait. They were supported by Ace compere Ronald Olivera and popular local singers. Foot-tapping dances and rib-tickling comedy skits were performed by professionals.
The musical evening began with the prayer song 'Namo Bapa' by 'Sangeet Sardar' Wilson Olivera and group followed by instrumentals from music director Kiran Gonsalves and team. Compere of the evening Ronald Olivera with his superb punch of compering entered the stage and introduced the musicians and artists after the formal welcome.
The gathered music-lovers enjoyed every moment of the event. The evening was filled with superb soul stirring music, songs, style and performances by visiting artists to the tune of music director Kiran and team. The stage was set alight by the melodious numbers of versatile singers Wilson Olivera, Babita Pinto, Joseph Mathias along with local singers Gulf Voice of Mangalore winners of 4 seasons GVOM Joyline Gonsalves, GVOM Morvine Quadras, GVOM Orson D'Souza, GVOM Gladys Lorena, Sara Lobo and Ashok. They rocked the stage with choicest selection of energetic Konkani songs. The music mood started with Konkani solo and duet songs Tumcho Mhaka Ugdas Aailo, Muklea Gatie Thavun, Yore Tum Yore Moga, Kenna Kenna, Channeachi Raat, Kitlexeo Rathi and Tum Chedum Konnachem.
After the first half session President Alben D'Souza welcomed the gathering with his presidential welcome speech. Chief guest, spiritual director of SWAK Fr Noel D'Almeida was escorted to stage by vice president Clifford D’Souza and honoured with flower bouquets. Addressing the gathering, he thanked everyone and SWAK for organizing this mega event and all the supporters who contributed to make this event a successful one. Visiting artists, musicians, media personals, sponsors and SWAK Shirva representative Melwyn Aranha were honored with flower bouquets and mementos by Fr Noel D'Almeida, president Alban D'Souza and vice president Clifford D’Souza.
A souvenir was released to mark the event by Fr Noel D'Almeida, president Alban D'Souza, general secretary Regina Serrao and designer in-charge Alwyn D’Souza. A video on ‘Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre’ was presented by Steevan Misquith. Committee members were called to the stage with honour for a group picture. Fr Blany Pinto was felicitated with flower bouquets.
The era of music continued with mind blowing songs Konkangaar, Sathra Sampon Attra, Xandnem Udela, Manasa, Mhaka Tujea Khatir, Tu voptai Zalyar, Gulfagar and Baile Baile. The audience were treated to a laughter feast by the comedians Lucy Aranha, Rajesh Fernandes, Alexander Fernandes, Sunny Menezes, Anil Menezes and Renny Menezes adding a generous dose of humour during the intervals that kept the crowd laughing till the end. The jokes were written and directed by Lancy Rodrigues and background scores were provided by Suneeth Noronha. Audience thoroughly enjoyed foot tapping dances by Jhankaar Dance Academy and Fusion Dance Academy.
Vice president Clifford D’Souza delivered vote of thanks. The musical show was well compered by Ace compere Ronald Olivera, the award-winning master of ceremony and the younger brother of Wilson Olivera.
The stage programme was compered by Susan Saldanha Shirthady. Soulful music was directed by well-known musician Kiran Gonsalves (Keyboard, Music Director) along with Raj Gopal Lead Guitar), Jackson D’Souza (Bass Guitar), Ronald Rodrigues (Acoustic Drums), Joy Fernandes (Rhythm Guitar), Joyston D’Souza ( Congo) and Aaron Gonsalves(Percussions). Visiting artists, musicians, media personals, sponsors and SWAK Shirva representative Melwyn Aranha were honored with flower bouquets and mementos by Fr Noel D'Almeida, president Alban D'Souza and vice president Clifford D’Souza.
A souvenir was released to mark the event by Fr Noel D'Almeida, president Alban D'Souza, general secretary Regina Serrao and designer in-charge Alwyn D’Souza. A video on ‘Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre’ was presented by Steevan Misquith. Committee members were called to the stage with honour for a group picture. Fr Blany Pinto was felicitated with flower bouquets.
The era of music continued with mind blowing songs Konkangaar, Sathra Sampon Attra, Xandnem Udela, Manasa, Mhaka Tujea Khatir, Tu voptai Zalyar, Gulfagar and Baile Baile. The audience were treated to a laughter feast by the comedians Lucy Aranha, Rajesh Fernandes, Alexander Fernandes, Sunny Menezes, Anil Menezes and Renny Menezes adding a generous dose of humour during the intervals that kept the crowd laughing till the end. The jokes were written and directed by Lancy Rodrigues and background scores were provided by Suneeth Noronha. Audience thoroughly enjoyed foot tapping dances by Jhankaar Dance Academy and Fusion Dance Academy.
Vice president Clifford D’Souza delivered vote of thanks. The musical show was well compered by Ace compere Ronald Olivera, the award-winning master of ceremony and the younger brother of Wilson Olivera.
The stage programme was compered by Susan Saldanha Shirthady. Soulful music was directed by well-known musician Kiran Gonsalves (Keyboard, Music Director) along with Raj Gopal Lead Guitar), Jackson D’Souza (Bass Guitar), Ronald Rodrigues (Acoustic Drums), Joy Fernandes (Rhythm Guitar), Joyston D’Souza ( Congo) and Aaron Gonsalves(Percussions). The stage, Sound and Lightings were provided by Waves Event Engineering (Anand D'Souza). The media presentation was done by Steven Misquith.

mEETING WITH vICAR gENERAL OF uDUPI DIOCESE
Kuwait 12 September 2016 :Rev. Fr. Baptist Menezes ,Vicar General of Udupi Diocese,during his visit to Kuwait in the second week of September, met the representatives of various Associations of Udupi Diocese in Kuwait and briefed about the Mission of Udupi Diocese and its Pastoral Plan 2025.
SWAK had organised this meeting at the Holy Family cathedral premises on the evening of 12th september. Representatives from associations such as Belwak Association, Bellevision Kuwait, Kuwait Brahmavar Welfare Association, Kuwait Canara Welfare Association, Kundapur Varado Welfare Association, Kanajar Welfare Association, Kuwait Pangala Association, Piusnagar Welfare Association & United Mangaloreans Kuwait were present.

SWAK annually conducts three programmes for its members although guests are allowed.

SWAK Felicitates members children who excelled in Education, Sports or extra curricular activities, to avail this benefit member must complete one year in SWAK, applicant must score a minimum of 70% marks or above to be obtained in 10th / 12th Standard final results. Top 2 students will be eligible for SWAK Scholarship, selected students will be honored during annual feast event. For sports applicants must win any Inter school,
National or inter national event with individual performance. SWAK managing committee decision is final in selecting these candidates.

SERVICES OF SWAK
Although SWAK was established with its prime motto being primary education for the poor children in Shirva, over the years SWAK has put in more efforts to raise funds, as a result of which other projects listed below are supported. Giving aid for "Saud Sandesh" , installation of electric power connection for a poor family in shirva, Partial support to the poor children of Shirva Parish who get a merit seat in any professional college and are unable to meet the tution fees in order for the student not to discontinue his/her future studies.

It was a pleasure excursion by members, families and friends of Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) on Friday, November 7th at the Messilah Beach, Kuwait. Year after year, SWAK has consistently staged this calendar event with oneness of mind. This was an opportune moment to spend quality time together as well as a much needed relaxation after much hard work all through the year for the cause, ideals and motto that Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) unflinchingly commits itself to.
Committee member Mr. Felix Serrao led the gathering in prayer and thanking Almighty God for all his blessings for uniting the SWAK family together.
President Alwyn D’Souza was enthusiastic in his welcome address and wished one and all an enjoyable picnic. In his address he felt ecstatic about the fact, this year picnic has been organized at Messilah Beach which is one of the most favorite outings place in Kuwait.Snacks and soft drinks were served earlier in the day to energize the participants. The turnout for the picnic was significant in numbers.

Kuwait, Sep 14: The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a feast liturgy of the Catholic church and the Orthodox church which commemorates the birth of Mother Mary and is celebrated on September 8.
In the Catholic tradition, the festival is celebrated in many places. The feast of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is traditionally celebrated as Monthi Festh (Feast) and a feast of family by Mangalorean Catholics around the world with religious fervor and gaiety.
As per the farming tradition, the feast of the new harvest coincides with the birthday of Our Lady. In gratitude for a bountiful yield, the new crop is blessed and prayed over.
The members of Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) along with family members met at the premises of Caesars Dakshin Restaurant, Jleeb Shyoukh, Kuwait on Friday September 12 to celebrate Monthi Festh, the birthday of Mother Mary.
A beginning to the celebration was made by Clifford D’Souza with an introductory speech, who highlighted the importance of this harvest festival in accordance with the feast of Nativity of Mother Mary.
The celebration of the day continued with the thanksgiving prayer and a recitation of Rosary led by committee member Regina Serrao.
President Alwyn D’Souza welcomed the guests with a spiritual touch of words describing the importance of the feast and Mother Mary’s significance in life.A hymn dance dedicated to Mother Mary was performed along with floral sprinkle by Delma Lobo and Astrel Menezes captivating the audience.
Committee member Gretta D’Souza and Felcita Mendonca led the hymn "Sakkad Sangatha Melyan ani Morriyek Hogalsiyan" sung in unison by one and all and simultaneously floral offering was done by kids.Soon after the floral offerings - Blessed Novem in milk was served to the gathering as per the Mangalorean tradition.
Visiting priest Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza delivered the wonderful festive message and Mother’s blessings to the gathering. In his speech he praised the continued efforts by SWAK to develop and encourage varied activities towards the social cause.Fr Noel Vinay Almeida, the parish priest of St Daniel Comboni Parish, Jleeb Al Shuyoukh, Kuwait delivered his festive greetings and wished the SWAK family a happy feast.In the midst of the celebration, Clifford D'Souza conducted various spot prizes and entertained the gathering by games.Housie Housie was conducted by Anil Menezes, cultural secretary Robert Mathias and Clevan Fernandes to entertain the attendees.
SWAK launched a new website (www.swakonline.org) with the motive to spread the awareness and day-to-day information on its affairs and activities to update its members and followers. The launching was done with the blessing of Fr Xavier Marian D'Souza, assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Arabia Church, Ahmadi, Kuwait in the honorable presence of Fr Noel Almeida and Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza.Musician Adrian Gomes who was also an active committee member of SWAK, presented his newly released audio CD on this occasion which also signified the launch in Kuwait.An important news conveyed to the guests was that SWAK was planning to come out with a special Christmas New Year edition of Shirva parish magazine Saud Sandesh, in honour of its glorious achievements over the past 20 years making great strides in the field of social developments.
SWAK secretary Doris Lobo proposed the vote of thanks and expressed his gratitude to the committee members, chef and staff members of Caesars Dakshin Restaurant and all those who contributed to the staging of celebration in various forms.Grace before meal was recited by Fr Noel Vinay Almeida.The pinnacle of the celebration was the appetizing vegetarian meal prepared by Caesars Dakshin Restaurant which was served in traditional style on banana leaves. The dining of the harvest meal in unison as one family was indeed the essence of the celebration.The entire proceeding of the feast day celebration was compered impressively by Clifford D’Souza.

Kuwait, Feb 8: Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) under the leadership of Alwyn Naveen D’Souza celebrated its Patron feast (Vodlen Fest) at the Salmiya Indian Model School (SIMS) Auditorium, Salmiya, Kuwait on Friday February 7.
The programme commenced with the introduction of Dr Manohar Prabhu, MC of the day by Clifford D'Souza, followed by a prayer by Regina Serrao. Committee members sang a welcome song for which lyrics were written by Lancy Rodrigues and music was provided by music maestro Adrian Gomes. President of SWAK Alwyn Naveen D’Souza officially welcomed the guests and thanked all the members for their support. Secretary Doris Lobo read out the annual report highlighting the achievements of SWAK.
During the felicitation ceremony, Fr Noel D' Almeida and Tressy Sanctis were the chief guests. The committee members along with Fr Noel and Tressy Sanctis cut the cake to symbolically start the feast, after which Fr Noel D' Almeida delivered the feast message. Meritorious students were honoured by president Alwyn D’Souza, Urban D’Souza, Fr Noel and Tressy Sanctis. The sponsors, outstanding members and media personnel were also honored during the occasion for their contribution towards SWAK. Ivan Martis was felicitated by Alwyn D’Souza for his long-time contribution to SWAK and for his gesture of returning the funds provided by SWAK for his medical needs, which will be used for needy people.
The audience enjoyed the entertainment programme put up by SWAK members and their kids. Foot-tapping dances were performed by Danica D'Souza, Mervice, Viola, Sahana Alisha Gomes, Avril Mathias, Carol D'Souza, Carlita D'Souza, Astrel Menezes, Tanisha , Thnia, Sharen, Delma, Freya, Inish, Maclina and Melina. Rib-tickling jokes were enacted by Chris D'Souza, Danica Monteiro, Felix, Regina Serrao, Alexander, Sunny and Anil. Melodious songs were sung by 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' Orson D'Souza ("Thembe Thembe" from Kevin Misquith's album), Ashwin Correa ('Milne hai mujse aayi' from "Aashiqui 2") and Ralph Serrao (Gulabi Ankhem). When Orson sang his favourite song ‘Angelina’ which had also won the GVOM title for him, the entire crowd cheered with a loud round of applause. Alston Gomes played instrumental (flute, saxophone, trumpet and mouth organ on the tune of 'Kenna Kenna' by Kevin Misquith. Orson and his new bride Jennifer were honoured with a bouquet by president Alwyn D’Souza.
Several games were conducted for all age groups. A number of spot prizes were given away at intervals and during dance sessions. Lucky dip draw and housie were conducted to keep the excitement alive. Lucky member and highest lucky dip seller were honored with prizes.
Votes of thanks were delivered by SWAK vice-president Urban D'Souza. Fr Noel and kids offered grace before the meal.
The well conducted programme came to an end with masala dance session by DJ Kiran and grand buffet dinner by M & M Caterers. The programme was ably compered by Dr Manohar Prabhu and appreciated by everyone.

Several games were conducted for all age groups. A number of spot prizes were given away at intervals and during dance sessions. Lucky dip draw and housie were conducted to keep the excitement alive. Lucky member and highest lucky dip seller were honored with prizes.
Votes of thanks were delivered by SWAK vice-president Urban D'Souza. Fr Noel and kids offered grace before the meal.

The feast of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is traditionally celebrated as Monthi Fest (Feast) and a feast of family by Mangalorean Catholics around the world with religious fervor and gaiety. The feast of the new harvest coincides with the birthday of our Lady on September 8. In gratitude for a bountiful yield, the new crop is blessed and prayed over.
The celebration of the day commenced with a thanksgiving prayer and a recitation of Rosary led by committee member Regina Serrao.Further, there was a welcome and introductory speech by Clifford D'Souza who highlighted the importance of this harvest festival in accordance with the feast of Nativity of Mother Mary.
SWAK secretary Gretta Julia D’Souza led the hymn "Sakkad Sangatha Melyan ani Morriyek Hogalsiyan" sung in unison by one and all among the present. Simultaneously floral offering was done by kids.
Blessed Novem in Milk was served to the gathering. SWAK's ex-president Urban DSouza delivered the festive message by highlighting the importance of mother Mary’s role in Jesus Christ’s life. He recollected his own childhood feelings attached to this festival.In the midst of the celebration, President Clifford D'Souza conducted various spot prizes and entertained the gathering by games.Towards the close, Housie Housie was conducted by Anil Menezes, Cultural secretary Robert Mathias and Gilbert Mendonca.

Kuwait, Dec 10: Shirva Welfare Association of Kuwait (SWAK) elected new office-bearers for the year 2014-15 during the recent annual general body meeting of SWAK.
Alwyn Naveen D’Souza was elevated to the post of president of SWAK from his earlier role of vice-president. Urban Noel D’Souza who earlier served as the president of SWAK twice, accepted to be the vice-president in order to lend his continued support and experience towards the progress of SWAK.
At the outset, outgoing president Clifford D’Souza welcomed all the members present at the annual general body meeting and appreciated their support during his tenure and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for their gesture.
In absence of general secretary, vice president Alwyn D'Souza presented the annual report and treasurer Gilbert Mendonca presented the financial report of the year 2013.
Clifford D’Souza dissolved the existing committee and initiated a new one after taking charge as the election commissioner of SWAK and also entrusted the responsibilities to the various office bearers.

Kuwait, Feb 9: Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) under the presidentship of Clifford D’Souza celebrated its Patron feast (Vodlem Fest) at the Indian Community Girls School Auditorium – Salmiya – Kuwait on Friday February 8.
The programme commenced with Deepak Andrade, MC of the day, welcoming the members and the guests, followed by a prayer by Urban D'Souza. Committee members sung welcome song for which lyrics were written by Lancy Rodrigues and music was provided by music maestro Adrian Gomes. President of SWAK – Clifford D’Souza officially welcomed the entire guest and thanked all the members for their support. Secretary Gretta D’Souza read out the annual report highlighting the achievements of SWAK.
During the felicitation session, Fr Noel and Archie Menezes were the chief guest who also delivered feast message. The entire committee member along with Fr Noel and Archie Menezes cut the cake to symbolically start the feast. Jaison Lasrado received honor and memento on behalf of Gulf Voice of Mangalore winner Orson D’Souza for his achievement in winning the singing title in Gulf level competition.
Outstanding and merit students were honored by president Clifford D’Souza, Urban D’Souza, Fr Noel and Archie Menezes. The sponsors, outstanding members and media personnel were also honored during the occasion for their contribution towards SWAK. A memento was presented to Lancy Rodrigues for his support to SWAK by president.

The chief guest of the programme Fr Stany Tauro, Lawrence D'Souza and Fr Neol were escorted to the stage and were honoured with bouquets. The chief guests along with the SWAK committee members cut the cake. Fr Stany Tauro, parish priest of Shirva church was specially flown to Kuwait for this celebration. In his festive message he thanked the SWAK members for this occasion and was delighted to be a part of this celebration. Fr Noel also delivered his festive message and both of them appreciated the efforts of SWAK which have helped less fortune students get their primary education. Fr Stany Tauro was felicitated on this occasion with shawl and momento. A cheque of Rs 1 lac was also presented to Fr Stany for the ongoing project of building a parish house.
Students who had excelled in academics and extra-curricular activities were also honoured. Deandra Janice D'Souza (12th standard) was awarded the late Thomas Castellino Memorial Academic Award sponsored by Nitin Castelino in remembrance of his father. Trevo Clyde D'Souza (10th standard) was awarded the late Princel Diona D'Souza Memorial academic award sponsored by Urban D'Souza in remembrance of his daughter. Myron Menezes and Ferrol Renson Serrao were awarded the SWAK sports award. Sweeney Mathias bagged the SWAK award for miscellaneous activities for excellence in 7th Don Bosco inter-school choral recitation competition.

Kuwait, Feb 4: Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) under the leadership of president Clifford D'Souza celebrated its Patron feast (Vodlen Fest) at Indian Central School Auditorium on Friday February 3 from 5.30 pm onwards.
The programme commenced with Nitin Castelino introducing Deepak Andrade, MC of the programme, and welcoming the members and the guests. The committee members too welcomed the gathering with a song, for which the lyrics were written by Lancy Rodrigues and music composed by Adrian Gomes of Shirva parish who is popularly known as A R Rehman of Konkani.
President of SWAK Clifford D'Souza officially welcomed the guests and thanked all the members for their support. Gretta D'Souza read out the annual report highlighting the achievements of SWAK.
SWAK with its motto 'People Caring for People' has always encouraged is members and their families to showcase their talents by providing them a platform during functions organized by them. This year too the audience thoroughly enjoyed the various songs, dances and the jokes which were showcased by the SWAK members. The feast of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is traditionally celebrated as Monthi Festh (Feast) and a feast of family by Mangalorean Catholics around the world with religious fervor and gaiety.
The feast of the new harvest coincides with the birthday of our Lady on September 8. In gratitude for a bountiful yield, the new crop is blessed and prayed over.
The members of Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) along with family members met at the premises of Echo Restaurant, Kuwait on Friday 14, 2012 to celebrate Monthi Festh, the birthday of Mother Mary.

It was a family oriented pleasure excursion for the members of Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK), families and friends at the premises of Kuwait Oil Company’s Al-Ahmadi Garden, Kuwait on Friday, November 16, 2012.
This was an opportune moment to spend quality time together as well as a much needed relaxation after much hard work all through the year for the cause, ideals and motto that Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) unflinchingly commits itself to.
At the beginning committee member Regina Serrao led a prayer of thanksgiving to God Almighty for all his blessings.President Clifford D’Souza welcomed the gathering and wished one and all an enjoyable fun filled event.Snacks and soft drinks were served earlier in the day to energize the participants.
The turnout for the picnic was significant in numbers.
Recreational activities for children & adults were organized by the Cultural Secretary Robert Mathias. Traditional games such as; Lagori, Passing the Ball, Passing the Hula Hoop, Sac Race, Putting the thread to the Needle, Holding a Glass of Water on Top Side of the Hand & Walking, Crossing the River Jordan, Triple Leg Race, Breaking the Pot (modki putovnchi) was entertaining to the full. It was a superb event to see through the picnic day with the staging of the exhilarating Tug of War.DJ David D’Souza’s music captivated to the participants in every games.
Soon it was time to enjoy the out-door meal as a family and indeed an essential to a picnic. Christopher D’Souza said the grace before meal and Delicious Lunch and Sweet Vorn was served by Royal Plaza Catering Services Co.Accountant Gilbert Mendonca, Cultural Secretary Robert Mathias, Auditor Anil Menezes and Committee Member Nitin Castelino conducted Housie Housie.

Shirva Welfare Association annual Family picnic was held on 27 May 2011 from 10:30 am onwards at Kuwait's Mesillah Beach.The event started off with warm welcome by President Urban D'Souza followed by a special prayer recited by Mr.Clifford D'souza with devotion to our Lady of Health.
The day began with delicious breakfast followed by kids games. It was time for enjoyment as everyone gathered got involved with Games.
The entertainment team led by Mr.Anil Menezes,Mr.Clifford D'souza & Nitin Castelino was prompt in delivering various events specially organized for this day ensuring that everyone gathered got involved with Variety of Games for all age groups as men, women and kids & entertainment activities.Time off at the swimming pool thrilled the kids and adults alike .A grace before meal offered by Anil Menezes, followed by delicious food supplied by SWAK member Mr.Harold D'souza of Royal Plaza Restaurent.In the concluding part of the program, Anil and Gilbert conducted a bingo. Vodlem Fest 2009
SWAK Celebrated our Annual Parish Feast on 6th of February 2009 from 5.00 pm onwards as announced earlier at the Indian Central School Auditorium Jleeb Al-Shuyook Kuwait. There was a Thanks giving Mass held at 8.00 am at the Holy Family Cathedral Kuwait City Church in the morning, attended by many.
The celebrations began at 5:15 pm with an introduction by Nitin Castelino and welcome to compere Roshan D’Silva. Mrs. Agnes Barboza led the prayer followed by welcome song “Swagat” by SWAK committee members. The welcome song was written by Mr. Lancy Rodrigues & Dirction /Music provided by SWAK’s Popular Musician Mr.Adrian Gomes. President of SWAK Urban D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Mr.Anil Menezes read the annual report highlighting the achievements of SWAK.
Entertainment session commenced soon after with dances performed by Anusha, Inish, Irel, Swallin, Carol, Calita, Natan, Ashrel, Sweedal, and Marissa. Music Maestro Adrian Gomes' children Alister and Alston mesmerized the audience by their musical performance

SWAK Celebrated our Annual Parish Feast on 6th of February 2009 from 5.00 pm onwards as announced earlier at the Indian Central School Auditorium Jleeb Al-Shuyook Kuwait. There was a Thanks giving Mass held at 8.00 am at the Holy Family Cathedral Kuwait City Church in the morning, attended by many.
The celebrations began at 5:15 pm with an introduction by Nitin Castelino and welcome to compere Roshan D’Silva. Mrs. Agnes Barboza led the prayer followed by welcome song “Swagat” by SWAK committee members. The welcome song was written by Mr. Lancy Rodrigues & Dirction /Music provided by SWAK’s Popular Musician Mr.Adrian Gomes. President of SWAK Urban D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Mr.Anil Menezes read the annual report highlighting the achievements of SWAK.
Entertainment session commenced soon after with dances performed by Anusha, Inish, Irel, Swallin, Carol, Calita, Natan, Ashrel, Sweedal, and Marissa. Music Maestro Adrian Gomes' children Alister and Alston mesmerized the audience by their musical performance
SWAK members Anil & Renny menezes, Agnel Saldanha and group enacted various jokes to make the event more attractive. Popular Magicians Myron Menezes and Philip Dolphy Machado performed their magic respectively & appreciated by the gathering.

Following a warm welcome by SWAK President Mr.Urban D’Souza,celebrations began with a introduction by past president Mr.Nitin Castelino & welcome prayer by Mrs. Agnes Barboza. SWAK Ex-Secretary Mr.Ivan Martis presented the Annual report.

Melwyn in his address showered blessings on all and wished all the best to SWAK in its endeavors. Outstanding members children were honored on this occasion and merit scholarships were distributed.

Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait 's Family picnic was held on 11th April 08 from 10:00 am onwards at Mesillah Beach. It was a fun-filled day, an event where the members and their families had wholesome fun. The day began with a warm welcome by President Urban D'Souza followed by a prayer led by committee member Mrs.Agnes Barboza.
In the beginning a delicious breakfast was served to everyone. It was time for enjoyment as everyone gathered got involved with Games. Variety of games and spot prizes were organized for all age groups as men, women and kids enjoyed every moment of the day. Time off at the sea shore thrilled the kids and adults alike.
A grace before meal offered by Mrs. Leena Martis, followed by delicious food sponsored by SWAK member Mr. Vincent Alva. SWAK took this opportunity to celebrate the birthday of Mr. Vincent Alva along with his family.

There was a thanks giving mass at 9.00am at The Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait city church, and then at 11.00 am the celebration took place at Don Bosco Hall, Salmiya.
The program was started by a prayer by Mrs. Agnes Barboza, followed by welcome song by Lancy Rodrigues and group for which Adrian Gomes played the music. President of SWAK - Mr. Anil Menezes welcomed the guest and briefed to the audience the activities of SWAK for the past 9 years. The chief guest Rev Fr Edwin Mascarenhas – Principal of St.Antony’s P U College, Naravi, who was on his trip to Kuwait preside this event, and along with the SWAK committee members he cut the cake to celebrate this Great Feast Day.
With feelings of joy Fr Edwin gave a beautiful message and briefed the importance of this event. He also appreciated the wonderful work of SWAK for recognizing the talents of their Parish. Miss Lydia Mendonca, daughter of SWAK member Mr. Felix Mendonca was honored with a memento for securing 10th rank in B.A.in Mangalore University, Miss Diandra D’Souza, daughter of SWAK member Mr. Urban D’Souza for her outstanding achievement in sports activities, Mr. Allen Mendonca, son of SWAK member Mr. Basil Mendonca for inter-gulf sports in badminton under 14yrs age.
Mr. Alexander Fernandes and Mrs. Leena Martis were awarded for selling highest raffles. Mr. Alexander Fernandes was chosen as the lucky person of the day.

There was also a Grand Raffle Draw conducted by ex president Mr. Francis Menezes. Housie Housie and a lot of games for children and adults were arranged and they enjoyed participating in it. DJ Mix kept the crowd dancing and singing on the floor.

Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) organized the 'Family Christmas Tree' on Friday 12th of December 2003 at 12.00 to 5.30pm at the United Indian School – Abbasiya, Kuwait.
The event started with a prayer by Mrs. Agnes Barboza, followed by a welcome song which was composed by Mr Lancy Rodrigues and music by Adrian Gomes. Mr. Franky Menezes welcomed the guests. The Chief Guest, Mr. Sylvester D'Souza, Deacon, gave a beautiful Christmas message. He gave an example of the people of India in Bombay (Nagpada) on how they prepared and cleaned the walls & streets, for the arrival of the Pope for the first time to India. Similarly, we have to be prepared for X'mas he added. Christmas carol singing gave charm to the Christmas Season, a symbol of love & peace among the people.
Then Francis Menezes respectfully invited on the stage, all those who celebrate their birthday's in December and greeted them with 'Happy b'day' song. Cake and soft drinks were served to mark the birth of 'Infant Jesus'. Songs, jokes and dance kept the crowd merrily where as, the fancy dress competition was a major attraction. Each competitor with their traditional costumes exposed their talent well on the stage. It brought back the memory of Mangalorean culture among people. Santa's entry thrilled and encouraged the children to come on the floor. All children followed him joyfully everywhere, to get their gifts.

He thanked everyone who supported SWAK's genuine cause of uplifting the poor and less fortune, and making this event memorable. Mrs Jessie D'Cruz distributed the prizes to all those who participated & also won SWAK contests. Mr Dominic & Mr Franky Menezes compere this entire function. The entire crowd which gathered was the only proof of SWAK's unity.
Annual Picnic 2003
The members of Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait celebrated Annual Picnic for SWAK family on Friday, 30th of April at Messila Beach. The program started off at 10.30 am with a special prayer recited by Mrs. Agnes Barboza with devotion to our Lady of Health. Mr. Adrian Gomes the Vice President of SWAK welcomed the guests and the members present.The entertainment committee led by Mr. Nitin Castelino and Ivan Martis was prompt in delivering various events specially organized for this Day. Allen Mendonca was honored by Mrs Bridgith D’souza (Retd. Teacher from Shirva) with a memento for his outstanding achievements in sport for the year 2003.Various games were held to keep the celebration mood alive; Adults & children alike participated in all events and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
In the concluding part of the program, Nitin and Gilbert conducted a bingo. Then proposed vote of thanks and expressed his gratitude on behalf of SWAKby Ivan Martis, A sumptuous buffet lunch was served catered by M & M Confectionery and Restaurant. Gifts were distributed at the end of every event and thus the program was successfully concluded at 5.00 PM

Wilfy Nite on 4th Oct 2002.
It was an unprecedented scene at the gate of Indian Arts Circle, Kuwait where “Konkann Kogull” Wilfy Rebimbus , was presenting his 210th Nite. Over 400 people after being stranded at the gate to secure entry pass had to return home disappointed due to capacity crowd of 1,200 already in the Auditorium when show commenced on the dot at 6.30P.M.
Mr. Hilary Mathais, the vice-president of SWAK, welcomed Mr. Walter Nandalike of diajidubai.com , a renowned Konkani compere, specially flown in from Dubai, who then introduced visiting artists Wilfy Rebimbus, “Konkann Maina” Meena Rebimbus, Veena & Vishwas.
Mr. Francis Xaxa, second secretary of Indian Embassy was the Chief guest for the function. On this occasion, the Wilfy’s 34th Volume cassette and CD of songs was released by the Chief Guest, who appreciated the efforts SWAK in preserving the Konkani cultural heritage.
The President and the chief organizer Mr. Adrian Gomes deserves the full credit for providing scintillating music for selected 17 songs for the show. While the show was centered around the Konkani music hero, Wilfy, it was Meena, Veena, Vishwas and local singers Rony, Jasmine and Jason who offered their best in ensuring the top class entertainment for the evening. Needless to say the orchestra team was equally best in its performance. Johny Surathkal, Lancy Rodriques, Valerian D’Souza, Anil Menezes and Jason Lasrado entertained the audience with their outstanding performance of mimicry skits. Ballerine’s Dance Academy headed by Sudhi and Jyothi presented excellent dance performances.

‘KONKANI MUSICAL SHOW’ 1998
SWAK is also proud of having organized a musical concert called the ‘KONKANI MUSICAL SHOW’ featuring renowned composers and singers, viz. Sangeeth Samrat Mr. Henry D’souza, Yodeling king in Konkani and various award winner Mr. Melwyn Peris and Dr. Aparna Mayekar. Two of these shows were presented on 20th of November 1998. The Orchestra for the show was very well arranged and conducted by Mr. Adrian Gomes the vice president of SWAK for the year 1998. There was also an active involvement of SWAK members Mr. Anil Menezes & Mr. Urban D’souza in the enacting of jokes for the show. A word of appreciation in this context has to be mentioned about Mr. Lawrence D’souza –Managing director of Caesar’s group of restaurants who is originally from Shirva, without which this message would be incomplete. SWAK remains grateful for the help of Mr. Lawrence D’souza in organizing the ‘KONKANI MUSICAL SHOW’ and bringing out a souvenir without which the show would have been impossible to be arranged.
In 1997 Eric Ozario president of ‘Mandd Sobhann’, recipient of ‘Rajyotsava’ award ’93 was on a ‘Gulf Yaatra’ (Gulf Tour) along with his 5 member team in order to raise funds for 'Kalaangan'. During his visit to Kuwait SWAK arranged for a sitting programme so called the ‘Bosni’ during which Eric Ozario and his team rendered the importance of Konkani and its culture by way of singing and music. SWAK also financially contributed to the 'Kalaangann' project and helped the 'Mandd Sobhann' by the 'Bosni' get more members for contribution
